It is so nice to be right. Wii continues to out sell more consoles than the XBox360 and PS3 combined. I do wonder what this means for the industry though, many have placed huge amounts of resources into the high definition consoles and I don't see that paying off like the resources placed into the Wii. However my worry is that the more hardcore developers will go tits up and not refocus to the larger player base of the Wii. Or to put it bluntly, make me more hardcore Wii games people!

Time for life to begin again
I have been so worried over the last while about my daughter's health that most of my normal activities other than playing Vanguard have diminished. But now it is time to start getting back into the saddle. I think I will start with a pair of things I noticed today and then talk about my current projects that I am working on.
The two things I noticed today were a bumper sticker and then when I was at the dump there was a trash can. The bumper sticker read "They can make me go to college, but they can't make me think". Now this may cause some people to snicker but to me it highlights one of the things majorly wrong with English speaking peoples, in that we don't value education highly enough. This of course led me to thinking about government and the way things are. So for those of the sticker and the trash can at the dump I propose that the following governmental style is because of you. The Idiocrasy: The forms of government were the idiots rule.
I may be a bit harsh and unfair but that seems to be the ruling class of Britain. Parliamentary sessions are a lesson in school yard politics. More and more the leaders of the UK are showing that they just aren't capable of handling the demands of modern society; new blood is required in a system that only allows for old blood to succeed.
The other governmental style that I was pondering today was the Mediocrasy; the form of government where the mediocre rule. This though of course sent me straight home and pondering the presidential campaign. None of the candidates are anything that special. They are squabbling at the expense of the American people and they all strike me as nothing but average.
Enough about the world at large, how about something about the world at small: my life. I have revitalised an interest in getting some of my projects worked on. I have 4 games that I am in various stages of working on for different reasons. I have my RPG which the purpose is to produce a complete rough draft of a single player RPG. This is an exercise in not only getting something finished, but in thinking about the project not in terms of the code but in terms of what needs to happen before the c++ compiler is even loaded on to the computer. For me it is also in exercise in creativity, as everything I am doing is story, plot, adventure etc.
My second project is a continuation of a c++ project at the beginning of the year. It is called Space Ace and is a simple top down 2d shooter inspired by old arcade games.
Of course I am still working on my web based game Scarletrazor. I recently moved it to a new server and lost a bunch of information in the process (kicking myself I know better) and I have to rebuild quite a bit as I push the game into its next stage of development. The Scarletrazor project in stark contrast to the RPG project is about game design on the fly and getting into the thick of it, trying things and then figuring out if they work or not.
My final project is probably my smallest one, but the one that will push my technical skill the most. I am going to create a clone of Tetris, just to see if I can do it. I doubt I will release it to more than just a few friends, but I need a small, finite coding project that has a start and an end.
Other than programming and game design I need to make sure I have time to study maths for next year when I restart university since that was by far my weakest subject.

Auto-immune Hepatitis :(
In early Feb, my eldest daughter was hospitalised with liver failure. She had turned yellow with jaundice and everyone was scared that she had some form of cancer of the liver or the lymph system. After a month in hospital it was diagnoses that she has a rare form of immune disease where her own body is trying to kill her liver.
It has been very tough trying to deal with it all, it is a controllable condition but it means a life time of heavy medication for her or her body will kill her.
She really doesn't deserve this.

Race is a myth
I have been looking at the Human Genome Project as part of a research paper that I am writing and I found a page that I think is very important and should be spread far and wide.
There are NO human subspecies. That means there is only ONE human race and we are all a part of it. Hating someone for skin color is as stupid as hating someone for eye or hair color.
This also means that there is no genetic reason differences in performance in any area of life, it all comes down to socio-economic factors.

New Cat
I am allergic to cats. From this stems a dislike of felines in my life. I feel that something that make me feel like crap for just being around it is a valid reason for not liking them.
My wife loves cats more than I dislike them.
So today I relented and said we could get a cat. So Scarlet took the younger twin out to get our new Siamese cat, Hiro. He is 6 weeks old and as far as I can tell is all ears and thinks he is a ninja. I have tried to point out to him that he is not a ninja since he is all white except light brown chocolate point markings. He didn't listen to me.
I get father of the year in my kids eyes for saying yes, my younger twin cried on the way home she was so happy.

Super Mario Galaxy
I just got Super Mario Galaxy and have been playing it this morning.
Oh my god this is an awesome game and just goes to show that game developers need to focus on game play over graphics. While SMG does have a distinct Mario cartoon look to it, the game play is revolutionary.
What is new you ask? Running around the inside and outside of spheres and the use of shifting gravity. Playing the game takes more than just my polished platform skills and forces me to think about what I am doing instead of just reacting like I have been through the last several games I have played.
I haven't played anything new like this in a long long time.

Crazy Time
Other than being busy with school there have been a few events in my life that have stopped my updates but....
I have made it past Christmas this year without incident. I attempted Suicide one year ago and getting back to the anniversary was a bit weird for me. I don't understand why people are so eager to shove Christmas on the non-believer. I have never had Ramadan or Kwanza pushed at me, ever...
I have serious moral issues with Christianity and the evil that it has done to the world over the centuries. Not to mention that the Christ Mass on Dec 25 is a fabrication. So given that I think Christianity is an evil thing, I am starting to equate people telling me that I should just celebrate it because everyone does it. That is similar to saying you should show up to the KKK parade because everyone is doing it. Giving your presence and consent to an event that you disagree with gives it legitimacy.
---
My Mother in Law has been diagnosed with malignant and terminal stage 3 ovarian cancer. She was hospitalised with kidney issues and then had a heart attack while under medical supervision because the nurse wouldn't pay attention to the patient saying something is wrong. So please spare a good thought for her during your day.
Thanks :)
