Wii out sells PS3 5 to 1 in May

I am an avid video gamer as most people reading this blog already know. I have also been a very vocal proponent of the Wii over the Xbox360 and especially the PS3. It's nice to see the sales figures backing up what I knew as a gamer when I was looking at which of the three consoles to purchase this time around. For two generations Sony has held the gaming audience's fickle attention and it grew with great hubris, Sony lost touch and that is blatantly appearant in how the market has recieved the PS3. It's like watching the N64 all over again, Nintendo of course dominated the home console market after Atari crumpled under its own weight. The NES and Super NES were solid machines that brought solid gaming advances to gamers everywhere and was mindful of what the gamer wanted. Unfortunately for Nintendo it didn't read the signs correctly with the N64 so lost to the PlayStation.

This trend in system sales should be worrying the games developers who didn't give the Wii the serious attention that it deserves and they should all be scrambling to bring game out on the Wii. But they must not bring poorly ported drivel to the Wii if they wish to remain afloat. The development houses and publishers must bring well thought out and well developed titles to the Wii that take advantage of the console and the fun first mentality it promotes.

Personally I think this will be good for the industry to get the focus back on fun and game play instead of the ever present push toward more and higher def graphics. It really doesn't matter how good your game looks if it doesn't play well.
