A while ago the company I used to work for tried to get a viral marketing game out into the web. They selected a really crap version of Arkanoid to do it with and I have been since confused on how to design a game that actually uses the product of automated tape backups and turn it into a game. The obvious answer is to just slap a sponsored by ad on a cool game but I want to figure out how to make a game based on data storage and make it fun.
Perhaps a continually falling set of data coming at a "data catcher" at the bottom of the screen and then you need to feed the data into the back up device.
Or a space invaders set up with incoming data errors using pictures of the product as the bases?
This is a stumbling block for me, I can think of a great many ways to make breaking into data fun. Cyberpunk netruns leap to mind. Perhaps a game that you have to stop hackers using a variety of methods including data backup as your "save point".
