Backstory: A young punk falls in love with pretty girl, they get married and have kids. Wife and Kids are killed, punk falls into deep depression and develops drug/drinking habit. This is our hero.
World hook, the war of the Angelic factions has been raging for eons. Lucifer and his fallen Angels have retaken Heaven from Michael and the Arch-Angelic chorus. As such Lucifer et al. control the church etc. God is not a player in the story as he is not taking a direct hand in the affairs of angel or mortal and is letting things play out to some design.
Since the "Ousting" of the Arch-Angels, Michael and crew have taken up resedence on Earth sine Lucifer controls Heaven and Hell. Michael and Raphael happen accross the Punk passed out in the alley close to death. Raphel sees great potencial in the Punk and recommends that Michael recruit him to the cause.
After a bit of a debate with the Punk's soul the Mortal is infused with Angelic powers and the quest to retake heaven from Lucifer begins.

Both sides of the Angelic war looks pretty much the same and there should be only little clues to tell which side is which, much like the French and English they really don't look that different but there are ways to tell one from another. So no sterotyping Lucifer's crew as red skinned goatlooking guys.
Punk can learn angelic powers through defeating various angels through the game.
This game would be either a RPG or a FPS
