Time for life to begin again

I have been so worried over the last while about my daughter's health that most of my normal activities other than playing Vanguard have diminished. But now it is time to start getting back into the saddle. I think I will start with a pair of things I noticed today and then talk about my current projects that I am working on.

The two things I noticed today were a bumper sticker and then when I was at the dump there was a trash can. The bumper sticker read "They can make me go to college, but they can't make me think". Now this may cause some people to snicker but to me it highlights one of the things majorly wrong with English speaking peoples, in that we don't value education highly enough. This of course led me to thinking about government and the way things are. So for those of the sticker and the trash can at the dump I propose that the following governmental style is because of you. The Idiocrasy: The forms of government were the idiots rule.

I may be a bit harsh and unfair but that seems to be the ruling class of Britain. Parliamentary sessions are a lesson in school yard politics. More and more the leaders of the UK are showing that they just aren't capable of handling the demands of modern society; new blood is required in a system that only allows for old blood to succeed.

The other governmental style that I was pondering today was the Mediocrasy; the form of government where the mediocre rule. This though of course sent me straight home and pondering the presidential campaign. None of the candidates are anything that special. They are squabbling at the expense of the American people and they all strike me as nothing but average.

Enough about the world at large, how about something about the world at small: my life. I have revitalised an interest in getting some of my projects worked on. I have 4 games that I am in various stages of working on for different reasons. I have my RPG which the purpose is to produce a complete rough draft of a single player RPG. This is an exercise in not only getting something finished, but in thinking about the project not in terms of the code but in terms of what needs to happen before the c++ compiler is even loaded on to the computer. For me it is also in exercise in creativity, as everything I am doing is story, plot, adventure etc.

My second project is a continuation of a c++ project at the beginning of the year. It is called Space Ace and is a simple top down 2d shooter inspired by old arcade games.

Of course I am still working on my web based game Scarletrazor. I recently moved it to a new server and lost a bunch of information in the process (kicking myself I know better) and I have to rebuild quite a bit as I push the game into its next stage of development. The Scarletrazor project in stark contrast to the RPG project is about game design on the fly and getting into the thick of it, trying things and then figuring out if they work or not.

My final project is probably my smallest one, but the one that will push my technical skill the most. I am going to create a clone of Tetris, just to see if I can do it. I doubt I will release it to more than just a few friends, but I need a small, finite coding project that has a start and an end.

Other than programming and game design I need to make sure I have time to study maths for next year when I restart university since that was by far my weakest subject.
